Dr. John D Sterrett
Dr. Sterrett came to East Tennessee in 1998, where he established and currently maintains a successful periodontal practice. He has been in the profession of periodontics for more than 35 years and has, over that time, advanced his skills and clinical excellence in not only the field of periodontics but in implant & cosmetic dentistry as well.
Professional Education
I have been both privileged and blessed to enjoy the diversity of educational, social, and international opportunities I have had over my lifetime. My educational journey reads like a Tour Guide Book of the world… From

Academics/Research/Honors
Dr. Sterrett has been an avid “teacher”, with over 30 years of teaching excellence and dedication whether university-based or lecturing locally or nationally.

As well Dr. Sterrett has had the good fortune to engage in groundbreaking dental research. Because of his many years of outstanding contribution to the profession of dentistry, Dr. Sterrett has had the honor of being inducted into 3 of dentistry’s most prestigious honor societies. In addition, The Tennessee Dental Association has honored Dr. Sterrett for his leadership and clinical excellence by awarding him the Fellowship Award for Distinguished Service.
Personal Interests
Dr. Sterrett, active in athletics his whole life, was a diver for the Varsity Swim Team at the Virginia Military Institute and played 4 yrs of Division I Soccer at both VMI and William & Mary. Later in life, while in his advanced specialty program, and at the age of 30, Dr. Sterrett was a member of the Dalhousie University Cross Country Team.
“My lovely wife and I have 2 very active children, 2 cats, and 1 dog! Outside a busy family life, I have had a keen interest in competitive running, swimming, bicycling & triathlons. And on the more sedate side, I love photography, fishing, golf, and bicycling touring.”
